I wrote a piece I’m really proud of, about comedy podcasts and how there are soon going to be too many of them. Won’t you click the link with your mouse pointer of love?
[The A.V. Club]

There’s already too many of them.

Agreed! We can easily narrow it down to a top 5 and call it a day.

Agreed! Also, there are too many bands. Can we please just pick five and have everyone else stop making music?
And while we’re at it, there’s WAY too much TV. Will each network please just choose a show and let us watch it? Enough with the options already.

As someone in the process of getting a comic book podcast rolling…I couldn’t finish reading this article. I dunno, I appreciate the leg work and someone making a point they believe in (from the half I read)…also, should I even reblog this if I didn’t finish the article? I don’t have a fully formed opinion.
I agree with J. Flow on this. There was no reason for me to reblog this, except to say that there’s another comic book podcast in your future.

Okay, I’ve rewritten a response to this article about 9 times. I like Steve Heisler’s writing but this was crazy infuriating to read and nearsighted for a bunch of different reasons.
Instead, how about this: if you’re sick of comedy chat shows, why not try Left Handed Radio. We’re a sketch comedy show. Then come to our live show April 6 at 7:30 pm at UCB East. Warning - and apparently this is appalling to many podcast listeners - we’re not the type of show that you can turn on and keep in the background while you do something else. We’re a SHOW.
What’s frustrating about this glut of comedy chat podcasts in what I feel is phase ONE (not the final phase) of comedy podcasting: comedians have taken this format and turned themselves into the comedy equivalent of elevator muzak - something that plays in the background while you vacuum. So many comics that make podcasts seem to be ELATED that they’re this thing to run in the background to be barely paid attention. Congrats, Marc Maron! You got what you always wanted: you’re on the same sonic level at Muskrat Love.
